"Congratulations to Kate Pickett
and Hugh MacPherson who have both been awarded a Career Scientist Award
(CSA) under the National Institute for Health Research Personal Awards
Scheme. This scheme is described as follows: “The CSA offers five years
funding to undertake a programme of research which is aimed at high
calibre individuals who have the potential to become academic and research
leaders within the course of an award. A CSA is expected to enhance
existing career opportunities for both themselves and others in health
related research."
"The Career Scientist Award supports the
development of collaborative partnerships within and between Higher Education
Institutions and the NHS in response to identified health needs”. Kate’s CSA
is for a programme of research titled: 'Deprivation, difference and early
development: Healthy societies for healthy families' and the amount awarded is
£338,875. Hugh’s CSA is, 'Acupuncture for chronic pain and general health:
evidence, policy and practice' and amounts to £338,629."
